Partnering with the City of Tukwila to Provide Reliable Communications

Preparing for the Worst

Below is a check list of how Amateur Radio could help a city be prepared for major emergencies.  Of course, Amateur Radio is just one of MANY areas of Emergency Management that the city is working to build upon.

Checked items are already in place.
Items in GREEN are things that are in progress and your volunteer time could help us achieve.

Every firefighter in the city is a licensed radio operator with emergency management training
Every fire department vehicle is equipped with amateur radios
Every area of the city is covered by multiple digital repeaters owned and operated by the city Emergency Management Office
There is an active and energetic club filled with amateur radio operators and enthusiasts eager to learn more about the hobby and volunteer their skills
The Emergency Management Office has close ties to the amateur club sharing training, equipment and jointly developing emergency response plans
Every residential neighborhood in the city has at least one licensed Amateur Radio Operator
Every major business in the city has at least one licensed Amateur Radio Operator and a radio station on-site
Westfield Mall has several licensed radio operators and a radio station on-site
Every school in the Tukwila School District has several licensed radio operators and a radio station on-site (these can be used to train students in radio theory and license them as well!)
City Hall, the courts, city maintenance facilities and every major city office has licensed radio operators and radio stations on-site
